Bodegas Luzón is distinguished at the 30th Jumilla D.O.P Quality Wine Competition
From Bodegas Luzón we are pleased to announce that, once again, our winery has been distinguished with five awards and a special mention in the 30th edition of the Annual Quality Contest of the D.O.P Jumilla, held on 23rd and 24th May.
The event was presided over by a jury made up of 18 experts from all over Spain, including renowned journalists, sommeliers, distributors and oenologists.
This year, the competition celebrated its 30th anniversary, marking a milestone with the participation of 176 wines from the D.O.P Jumilla, the highest number in the history of the competition.
The organization and coordination of the event was, as every year since its first edition, in charge of the specialized journalist Enrique Calduch and on this occasion, the guide of the gala was in the hands of the Jumilla journalist Lola Tomás.
As in previous editions, the tastings were carried out following the standards established for international quality competitions by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine, which requires blind tasting.
In total, 31 medals were awarded, distributed among 12 wineries, where Bodegas Luzón distinguished itself with four silver medals, one gold medal and a special mention, being the most awarded winery of the competition.
A Gala with surprises
The celebration of the 30th anniversary of the competition brought with it several surprises, the most relevant of which was the presentation of the new leaf-shaped trophy, symbolising the rooting of the Monastrell grape in Jumilla.
This trophy was designed by Miguel Ángel Lozano and made by David Marín, both from Jumilla.
The Monastrell leaf, which represents renewal and life, is cut, folded and engraved by hand by the artisan and personalized with the names of the winning wines.
Every year the proposal will change, alluding to the awards and the competition, reflecting the evolution of the wineries and the wines over the last thirty years.
Luzón, the most awarded winery
In the category ‘Young red wines made without contact with wood from vintages 2023-2022’, our Luzón Colección Monastrell Ecológico, has won Gold and a Monastrell Special Mention, an award that fills us with pride and satisfaction to receive, for the sixth consecutive year, the Gold medal for the best young wine of the D.O.P. for our Luzón Colección Monastrell.
