Our History

The essence of our Journey

TRADITION AND INNOVATION

Bodegas Luzón is a winery proud of its roots and the territory to which it belongs.

We are one of the main producers and exporters of D.O.P Jumilla wine since its foundation by Don José de Molina. He was a commander of the Royal Armies stationed in the Philippines and decided to return to his native Jumilla after finishing his military career, naming his property “Finca Luzón” in honour of the island where he spent so much time and which always remained in his memory.

Later, the history of our winery becomes even more special, when Don José De Molina decides to link the inheritance of his lands and his estate to the female branch of the family, a tradition that continued until the mid-80s.

The journey of Luzon

The beginning

Don José de Molina returns to Jumilla for his retirement from the island of Luzon (Philippines), where he will name his property “Finca Luzon” in honour of the island where he spent several years.

The legacy

D. José died in 1863, leaving his lands to his firstborn daughter Ana Josefa, who would bequeath it to her first daughter and so on, leaving these lands linked to the female branch of the family.

The History

After the death of Mrs. Carmen Guillén, her eldest daughter, Amparo Molina Guillén, took over Finca Luzón and kept the property until 1980.

Change of saga

In 1980, the property and the winery were sold by the Molina family to Don Juan José Martínez Abellán (Piquito), who resumed the winemaking activity.

2005

A great family

The winery is acquired by the Fuertes family, which maintains the centenary essence of Bodegas Luzón, while investing and providing the necessary infrastructure to adapt the family business to the new times.
