At Bodegas Luzón, we are proud to present the new vintages of our most emblematic red wines: Altos de Luzón 2022, Alma de Luzón 2021 and Por Tí 2021. These wines, a reflection of our passion for viticulture and respect for the land of Jumilla, are a tribute to the richness of the territory, the tradition and the values that inspire us. Each of them has a unique identity, built from grapes selected from the best vineyards, and made with the dedication that defines our work.
Alma de Luzón 2021
In Alma de Luzon, we pour our learning, emotions and passions. This wine symbolizes our most intimate connection with the land, represented on its label by a design that evokes the neural connections that link experiences and emotions. Its unique blend, composed of 80% Monastrell and 20% Syrah, comes from carefully selected vineyards: La Traviesa, a 49-year-old dry-farmed goblet-trained vineyard, and El Pocico, a trellised plot located at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. Both vineyards, characterized by stony and sandy-loam soils, give the wine an unmatched aromatic intensity and balance.
The cycle began with a cold and rainy winter, followed by a mild spring with generous rainfall, which created ideal conditions for vineyard development. However, at the end of August, an intense five-day heat wave partially dehydrated the grapes, interrupting ripening and delaying the process. This phenomenon resulted in grapes with outstanding acidity and lower sugar concentration, achieving a vintage distinguished by its vibrant freshness and balance, perfect for highlighting the essence of the terroir.
Alma de Luzón is made with minimal intervention, respecting the characteristics of the grapes as much as possible. After a low temperature maceration, the wine is fermented in 500-liter barrels and then transferred to new French and American oak barrels, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged for 22 months. The result is a deep cherry colored wine, with expressive aromas that combine black fruits, mineral notes and spices such as black pepper. The palate is succulent, fresh and balanced, with great character and cellaring potential.
Por Tí 2021
Por Tí is a tribute to the emotions and moments shared with our loved ones. Its name and essence are dedicated to those we admire the most, especially our children, and it seeks to become the perfect companion for unique occasions. This wine combines 80% Monastrell with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon from the La Traviesa and Las Piedras parcels, respectively. Both locations, with stony soils and altitudes of up to 700 meters, offer grapes of small size, high concentration and extraordinary balance.
The manual harvest and the selection of the best grapes are fundamental to guarantee the quality of this wine. After fermentation in French oak vats at controlled temperatures, Por Tí is aged for 18 months in oak barrels, with 60% French oak and 40% American oak. The result is a wine of opaque cherry color with garnet reflections, which combines aromas of ripe red fruit, spices, cocoa and licorice on the nose. The palate is structured, tasty and persistent, with ripe tannins that add sweetness and smoothness.
Por Tí is an excellent choice for pairing with red meats, traditional stews or game dishes, thanks to its good structure and concentration on the palate. Its ripe red fruit aromas, spicy notes, and subtle hints of cocoa and toast add complexity, while its ripe, sweet tannins make it a pleasant and persistent choice to accompany cured cheeses or select cured meats. A versatile proposal to elevate any dining experience.
Altos de Luzón 2022
Altos de Luzón is the pure expression of the land of Jumilla, a wine that pays tribute to the Monastrell grape and the characteristics of a harsh climate that challenges the vine and raises its quality. The grapes for this vintage come from the La Melera plot, a dry-farmed goblet-trained vineyard more than 43 years old, located at an altitude of 675 meters above sea level on a poor, sandy soil that produces small grapes with great concentration and excellent acidity.
The 2022 vintage was marked by an extremely hot summer and an early heat wave, which caused significant drought. The vineyard was weakened, with very little vegetation and thin shoots, resulting in a low grape load. Grape ripening was slower than usual, resulting in a vintage with high concentration, small grapes, and outstanding acidity, which brings an important freshness to the vintage.
The grapes are harvested by hand, carried out with the utmost care, which ensures that only the best grapes reach our winery. After a period of cold maceration, fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, allowing us to extract the maximum potential from the grapes. The wine is aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels, giving the wine a unique aromatic complexity. The result is an organic red wine with a deep profile, deep red in color with ruby highlights, in which the aromas of red and black fruits, sweet spices and notes from the aging process stand out. On the palate, Altos de Luzón 2022 is fresh, fluid and with fine tannins that reinforce its persistence.
Its alcohol content of 14.5% and its freshness make it a perfect choice for those looking to enjoy the typicality of Jumilla at its best.
