At a recent event held at the School of Agronomists of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, we took part in the presentation of the eagerly awaited new vintage of our Tomás Ferro. This wine, made from the native Merseguera grape, has conquered and surprised the most demanding palates and has become a benchmark in the recovery of almost extinct grape varieties in our region.
Our winemaker, Vicente Micó, highlighted the unique characteristics of this vintage, in terms of quality and quantity harvested, which has been carefully made from grapes harvested at the right time, guaranteeing optimum health, incomparable freshness and high acidity. It is also an exceptionally fresh white wine that harmonises perfectly with Murcian gastronomy, with marked aromatic notes of white fruit and green apple.
In addition, our manager, Francisco Javier Martínez remarked during the presentation that the demand for Tomás Ferro has experienced a notable increase since the previous vintage, launched in 2022, sold out quickly, even managing to cross national borders to reach markets in the United Kingdom, Poland and Bulgaria, despite being a limited edition.
This year’s production reaches 4,000 bottles of top quality white wine, thanks to exceptional climatic conditions, which have been decisive in achieving a young, unctuous white wine with a unique salinity, a reflection of the landscape where the vineyards grow, located practically at sea level, and which stands out, compared to previous vintages, for its greater intensity, acidity and minerality.
This year, the harvest of the Merseguera grape had the active participation of 150 volunteers from the university community, marking an increase of 15% compared to the previous year. Among them, 70 were students from various teaching centres of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, showing a growing interest and commitment to this initiative, which allows the participating students to have had the opportunity to collaborate in all phases of the process, acquiring valuable complementary practical training, as well as participating in the preservation and enhancement of the merseguera grape.
And you, haven’t you tried one of the freshest and most different wines from our winery yet?
